Check the training-country route first

On 13 October 2026, DfE removed the subject-specialism restriction for applicants trained in eligible countries. Country eligibility and the other mandatory requirements still apply; this does not make every overseas-trained teacher eligible.

From 9 September 2026, teachers trained in Ghana, India or Nigeria are no longer eligible for this direct apply-for-QTS service. Check the official alternatives rather than treating removal of the subject restriction as restoration of those countries to this route.

The route also checks professional standing, relevant training and teaching experience. A degree-level comparison addresses one part of the evidence, not the entire professional assessment.

DiploWay questions to settle before paying

Write “England” in the destination field of your plan. If you mean Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, first locate the receiving jurisdiction’s teacher-recognition process; this England guide should not be treated as a UK-wide route.

Keep these questions separate: is my academic award comparable, does my training lead to professional teacher status, and does the intended route accept my professional background? Ask the route’s receiving authority which document resolves each question.

Record who supplies professional-standing evidence and who confirms experience. If the direct recognition route is unavailable, investigate the official alternatives before ordering reports. Do not assume that an additional paid comparison changes a route’s country or experience requirement.
