The title and place of work can change the question

KMK distinguishes regulated access and practice from a legally protected title. It also notes Länder legal foundations for professions such as teaching and engineering. The official federal guidance says engineering regulation depends on whether the professional engineer title is required for the role. Do not infer one nationwide process from a broad degree subject.

Equivalence and the licence are separate checks

The competent authority compares the professional qualification with the German reference occupation. For regulated professions, substantial differences can lead to a specified compensation measure. After equivalence, further professional-licence criteria are assessed. A notice or advice contact should not be treated as permission to practise.

The official portal describes non-binding advice services, including help with compiling documents. Advice supports preparation; the competent authority makes the recognition decision. Use the existing scoped profession guides below only for their printed coverage.

DiploWay preparation: ask the authority before obtaining another report

Record the intended activity, protected title and Bundesland. Separate academic degree comparison from professional qualification, current professional status and other licence evidence. Ask the authority which records it requires and who should supply them; do not substitute another state’s checklist.
