Anabin or ZAB: check both the university and the degree

Before paying for ZAB, check the institution and degree evidence requested by the receiving authority. An H+ university entry alone is not the whole check.

Two entries can matter

The official guidance checks the university’s anabin status and the degree’s comparison separately. The degree must carry the relevant comparison; an H+/- institution has an additional institution-degree condition. A university appearing in the database is therefore not a complete answer by itself.

When individual comparison enters the process

The guidance describes a ZAB Statement when appropriate institution or degree evidence is missing. One stated example is an H+ university with the specific degree not listed. Confirm the receiving authority’s proof requirement rather than treating every database search as a personal immigration decision.

Check the document route before the fee

ZAB’s application page provides a pre-check for whether evaluation is generally possible and which documents are needed. It is an early information step, not the final evaluation of the award. The checked fee page quotes EUR 208 for a Statement of Comparability.

Comparability is separate from admission and registration

A ZAB academic statement does not grant university admission or professional practice rights. Confirm the receiving process separately.

DiploWay evidence checklist

Record the award’s exact name, awarding institution and award date before searching. Similar English translations of degree names may hide different awards; retain the original name when asking the receiving authority to confirm a match.

Keep the institution entry and degree entry separately in your working notes. If the match is unclear or incomplete, note the gap and ask what official proof is accepted. Do not interpret a failed search as a final rejection of the qualification.

Before starting a paid route, check who is requesting the document and for which purpose. If it is for professional registration or admissions, go back to that recipient’s evidence list. The academic statement should not be used to skip a separate decision.

Use the official guidance and ZAB pre-check as the next steps. DiploWay does not replicate anabin, assign degree status or make an eligibility calculation.
