Recognition determines which route to investigate

Veterinary practice in the UK requires RCVS registration. Its overseas guidance starts with where you qualified and provides recognised-qualification routes.

The Statutory Membership Examination is for overseas vets whose qualification is not recognised. It is not a universal exam for every overseas graduate.

The examination is followed by registration

RCVS requires examination candidates to be qualified vets in good professional standing and eligible to practise in the qualification country.

The pathway separates declaration of intention, formal application, written examination, OSCE and registration after passing. Passing the exam is a step towards registration, rather than an additional academic qualification.

DiploWay recognition-first checklist

Begin with your precise degree, institution and award date. Locate the applicable RCVS qualification guidance and note any conditions attached to the programme or award. If the exact qualification is unclear, ask RCVS before paying for an examination or a separate academic evaluation.

Keep evidence of qualification and evidence of professional standing in different sections of your plan. Record which institution or regulator can verify each item, and whether the official route asks for it to be sent directly.

If you are following the examination route, distinguish an intention to sit, exam entry, exam results and registration. Track the next required official step rather than treating one successful stage as permission to practise. This guide helps organize the route; it does not recognise a degree or register a veterinarian.
