The intended title changes the question
HCPC distinguishes the generic word psychologist from protected titles such as clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, health, occupational, and sport and exercise psychologist. Using a protected title requires registration.
Voluntary-register membership and HCPC registration are different things. Begin with the intended job title, rather than assuming that every role bearing the word psychology has the same registration route.
Professional standards go beyond the degree label
HCPC’s practitioner psychologist standards include generic, profession-specific and domain-specific requirements. Registration requires meeting the relevant standards; continued practice must remain within the professional’s scope.
Its international application guidance directs overseas-trained professionals to check eligibility, read the standards and prepare certified documents before applying.

DiploWay evidence map for the intended role
Copy the exact practitioner title from the proposed role into your preparation notes. Then identify the relevant standards and the training or experience evidence you can point to for that role. Keep academic award names separate from the title you intend to practise under.
For supervised practice, record who can verify the work, its dates and the responsibilities involved. Ask the receiving regulator what evidence is required rather than asking an evaluator to turn a degree title into a protected professional title.
If a role appears outside this guide’s protected-title scope, check its actual employer and professional requirements separately. A missing HCPC requirement should not be treated as a job offer or as acceptance of your qualification. Our checklist helps organize the questions, without assessing your competence.
