Regulated profession

Find the qualification regulator for work in Canada

Check the profession’s regulator

THE DECISION MAKER

The regulatory authority responsible for that occupation and location.

THE FIRST FREE CHECK

Use CICIC’s occupation and province or territory lookup to identify the responsible authority.

AVOID THE WRONG REPORT

Confirm any accepted assessment with the regulator first. A general-purpose report is advisory, not the licence or registration.

Short answer

Identify the intended occupation and province or territory before ordering a licensing-related assessment.

Academic records and professional credentials answer different questions

CICIC distinguishes academic records such as degrees, transcripts and course outlines from professional certificates, qualifications and licences. The receiving authority prescribes the submission procedure. Having a degree certificate therefore does not tell you whether professional-status evidence is also required.

An external assessment supports the authority’s process

The authority may use an external assessment where it cannot assess international records internally. CICIC advises confirming the accepted service first; that advisory assessment does not itself grant professional registration. Use the scoped profession examples below for their stated locations, then confirm your actual regulator’s instructions.

DiploWay preparation: build two evidence lists

Separate school-issued documents from regulator-issued professional evidence. For each, record who sends it, whether a translation is needed and where it goes. Leave unresolved items as questions for the authority instead of substituting an immigration report or a different province’s checklist.
