Automatic is a defined route, not every European degree

The combined automatic route requires an EEA/Swiss award on the designated list and appropriate Dutch proof. Diplomas at least five years old have extra requirements. Recognition alone is also possible, but does not by itself permit independent nursing practice under the protected title.

The competence route assesses professional content

For the generally applicable outside-Europe route, BIG can obtain academic advice itself. Nursing applicants take a BI professional test in that route, followed by the commission’s assessment; additional training may be needed. The test page describes knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning, with an official invitation after a complete file.

Keep the two language requirements separate

The competence-route Dutch table lists nursing at B1; its English reading table lists nursing at A2. Providers, proof types and certificate conditions still matter. The VIG exception to English reading evidence is not a general nurse exemption. These tables are not a blanket rule for every BIG recognition route.

Final registration can be a follow-up, not a second fresh file

After professional recognition, BIG registration still has its own conditions. If registration was requested during recognition, BIG sends follow-up instructions; a separate application is not always needed. The official page identifies language, background evidence and additional older-diploma checks.

DiploWay nursing preparation questions

Write the precise diploma title, qualification date, awarding country and intended nursing role. Compare that record with the official route, not a recruiter’s generic label.

Ask which evidence can be uploaded and which must come by post. Keep outstanding language and registration questions separate from the academic comparison. This guide quotes no uniform duration or all-in fee.
